The ball, held this year on May 29, will honor local community leaders Valerie Montecalvo and David Portman, both of whom were present at the informal reception.
Montecalvo, owner and CEO of Bayshore Recycling Corp, is an avid environmentalist who supports several environmental groups including the Nature Conservancy, Clean Ocean Action and Edison Wetlands.
Portman, president of Triad Property Management and Developmental Corporation, sits on the board for the Jewish Foundation in the Heart of New Jersey and serves as chair of the New Jersey Jewish Home for Rehabilitation and Nursing.
“Brookdale and the Brookdale Foundation are founded on the principles of excellence, achievement and community service,” said Timothy Zeiss, executive director of the Foundation and Alumni Affairs. “Valerie Montecalvo and David Portman are shining examples of those values, and we are proud to honor them this year.”
The reception, hosted by Brookdale President Dr. Maureen Murphy, provided an opportunity for Brookdale supporters to meet the honorees and discuss plans for the Foundation’s premier fundraising event.
Each year the Scholarship Ball raises money for the Building Minds, Building Futures scholarship fund, which provided nearly $400,000 in scholarships and grants to more than 500 students this year alone.
Scholarship Ball co-chairs Carol Stillwell, Candy Sattenspiel and Karen Escobedo are seeking community partners and local residents interested in supporting the 2015 ball through sponsorships, advertisements and items for gift baskets and auctions.
The 2015 Brookdale Scholarship Ball will be held on Friday, May 29, at Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club in Farmingdale.
